Republic Act 8485 Animal
Welfare Act of 1998

Animal welfare act of 1998 was approved
on the 11th day of February year 1998. It is all about the rights of
all animals. It was updated by Congressman Escudero as the House Bill 2992 for
the increased in penalties for the violators of this act.
There are ten sections within this
act. Enumerated as follows:
Section 1: Promotion of the
protection of the welfare of all animals including birds.
Section 2: Issuance of Certificate
of Registration of BAI for 1 year renewal.
Section 3: Duties and
responsibilities of the BAI director.
a. Supervise of the efficient or effective implementation
of the act.
b. Regulate the establishment, operation and maintenance
of the facilities in raising animals.
c. Supervise the proper transportation facilities.
Section 4: Duties of farm operator
or animal raiser;
a. Adequate provision of food and water.
b. Provision of written permit from BAI director
for any animal transportation.
c. Proper confinement and restrain for the animal
during transportation.
Section 5: Creation of various committees.
Section 6: Different exception
under R.A. 8485.
Section 7: Protection/preservation
of the natural habitat of wild life animals.
Section 8: Violation &
Penalties.
Section 9: Modification of amendments
and inconsistency.
Section 10: Approval of R.A. 8485.
For
the violators of Republic Act 8485 imprisonment of not less than 2 years nor
more than 5 years or a fine not less than P 20, 000 nor more than P 50, 000 or
both at the discretion of the court are the penalties for those who had been
caught.
